CAYA Farmstead Project

Starting September 2009 we will be undertaking a new and exciting project - The CAYA Iron Age Farmstead Project. We are hoping to create a small farmstead including Iron Age crops and herbs, an Iron Age granary, an Iron Age oven and Iron Age kiln. All members of CAYA and the community will be involved with creating and looking after the farmstead. There will be oppurtunities to learn how to spin wool and make Iron Age clothes using a loom, bake bread, make dyes, cook ancient food and fire pottery!

We're going to start off by building the granary, hopefully beginning this summer. We're currently researching how to construct it authentically and planning it's dimensions It will be located next to the current roundhouse down by trench 14. In addition we're applying for funding from Young Roots which should be complete soon.

The older members of the CAYA group are currently organising this project and have created a committee to complete it. However, later on there will be loads of oppurtunities for the younger members to get involved once the project has really got going.

Check back soon for more information on what's happening.
