Youth Archaeology at Caer Alyn
CAYA visit to Stretton Watermill
Welcome to the Caer Alyn Youth Archaeology pages, giving you details of our Youth Archaeology Club, CAYA (c), based at your very own community heritage and archaeological site in Llai, Wrexham. CAYA can offer the aspiring young archaeologist both a hands on, practical archaeological experience and an understanding of the region's rich history and heritage.
CAYA meets once a month at the Caer Alyn site, based at Alyn lodge, Pont y Capel Lane, Llai, nr Wrexham, between 10.30 am - 1.00pm.
Your CAYA leader, Karen Morrell, assisted by the project coordinator and project volunteers , has developed an exciting programme of activities that will give you practical experience, as well as a wider understanding of archaeology from across the world, from Greeks to Egyptians to Romans, but not forgetting your very own heritage, the Celts.
CAYA membership is available to anyone aged 8 to 16 years. A small fee is charged, currently £2 per session. CAYA's aim is to give you an enjoyable and fun archaeological experience you will never forget, delivered by professional and experienced leaders who work in the field of archaeology.***
As a member of CAYA you will have the opportunity to visit other archaeological sites in the region to see the work of other community projects. You could also join the UK wide Young Archaeologists' Club as well, run by the Council of British Archaeology, York.
Membership of the national Young Archaeologists' Club (YAC) will give you further insights into the fascinating world of archaeology.
If you are interested in finding out more about the wonderful world of archaeology then why not come along to the next Caer Alyn Open Day ( see website for details) to find out more about CAYA, and, of course, to meet the archaeologists.
Heather Butler is now the Branch Leader of the Wrexham and District YAC. For further details Click on the YAC link below.
