Latest News from Caer Alyn CAER ALYN ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT - Wrexham SUMMER DIG 2010 Book now for the 7th August – 21st August 2010 Join the Caer Alyn team in excavating a potential prehistoric enclosure at the southern entrance to the Bryn Alyn hillfort In 2008, Dr Meggen Gondek, University of Chester, completed a geophysical survey of the interior of the hillfort and an area just outside the southern entrance to the Bryn Hill fort, the results of which indicated that there are possible features in both areas.

The Swedish Connection

On Sunday 14th September two members of the project fly to out to Sweden, joining other volunteers from Sweden and the University of Chester to assist in the excavation of a possible Viking ship burial and Viking settlement being carried out by Stockholm University.

Caer Ayn Youth Archaeology

The First 12 Months

CAYA has done very well since 22nd of September 2007. We have 14 children on the register and there are more who would like to start this September. The activities have ranged from helping on Trench 14 to learning about the Ancient Egyptians, to visiting Moel Fenlli with Fiona Gale to hosting an Archaeology day for Denbigh and District YAC branch.

The Cadw Dig, Day One

Day one of the dig started with the clearance of small trees and under growth in order to allow the archaeological team access to the area of the upper rampart the main part of the fort under investigation.

CAYA's first meeting!

Our first session of CAYA started really well with a beautiful Autumn morning at Caer Alyn. Our new members of CAYA were introduced to their new leaders: Phil Cox, Karen Gavin and Karen Morrell. We had an excellent introduction to Caer Alyn and the aims of CAYA by Phil.

Latest News The Caer Alyn project starts its sixth year with a series of new excavations and activities. These include new excavations on the site, continued development of the Iron Age settlement, planned and built by our youth archaeologists and a Summer Big Dig on the southern enclosure of the hillfort.
